ʻPolihale: Place of Our Hearts,ʻ is a documentary short covering the work done over the past years by the Hui to protect, conserve, and educate the public about Polihale. Supported by Pacific Islanders in Communications and the Harvard Travellers Club this documentary chronicles the restoration work days, archaeological surveys, and oral histories of this sacred place. Community Screenings
August 28th, 2026 4-6pm at the Historic Waimea Theater on the West Side of Kauaʻi there will be a screening of Place of Our Hearts and Q&A. Free and Open to the Public until capacity. RSVP in the button below (to aid in food estimates)

Polihale is an ancestral burial ground
Polihale is a leina, or jumping off place for souls in traditional Hawaiian belief. For this reason thousands were buried in the dunes and the surrounding area. The dunes are a fragile ecosystem with rare and endangered plants that can easily be irreparably damaged. With limited park staff the lineal descendents of the area and volunteers maintain the dunes and the fragile archaeological areas. Please respect Kapu (off limits) signs, pack your garbage, do not drive on the dunes, and use designated bathroom areas.
